Cuckquean Shores
Less Than Her
Released July 10, 2026
On Ocracoke in the flat September light, Wren already knew she was less than her.
Her husband Isaac had brought the beautiful photographer Carly to the island for his research. Wren made the calls, opened the doors, stocked the house on stilts, and watched as the two of them fell into their easy rhythm. She saw the way he looked at Carly. She heard her name on his lips in the dark while he was still inside her.
On her knees in the kitchen Wren listened as Isaac described how Carly felt beneath him, how she moved and sounded, while she urged him to keep going. Later she stood at the window and watched them together in the morning light, their bodies moving in perfect hunger, while Wren touched herself and came undone at the sight of what she could never be.
In the honest coastal light Wren finally stopped pretending. She surrendered to the warm shame, to the truth of her place, and let herself want every moment of it.
